I am heartened you have found my work interesting enough to look further, and I will try to repay that interest here.

I have to admit to attending Art College, but it was to study print making, acquiring a BA of which I have made only limited use. Perhaps the time would have been better spent in the real world but who am I to presume

In 1979 I had a change of fortune which in turn opened the door to me pursuing my artistic career with the results you see here.

As you can see, most of my work is rather traditional and recognisable in style but hidden away in sketch books lay the seeds to KOTUZOW the new approach dedicated a page to itself.

This kind of work found no favour with teachers or tutors alike and it was post-'79 before I began to really see what could be achieved. Some of the pieces are entirely a stream of consciousness, with elements suggested by those new shapes created as I rotate the artboard as I work. Some are based on a one word premise, as in Kotuzow Number 43. This was based on "wind names" and if you look carefully you will find a Whirlwind helicopter, the nose of a Ford Zephyr, the nameplate of a Mistral surfboard and other references that will take some deciphering.

Having been worked on from all four sides these images can be hung whichever way you prefer.

In an effort to humanise this script, I have a small workshop in our North Yorkshire home, this smells deliciously of oil paints and is usually organised chaos. Our two dogs frequently visit me as I work and they in turn frequently "steal" items in use. I generally listen to Radio 4, really enjoy a good book and am rarely satisfied with a finished work (until years later when I've long forgotten the mistakes).

My thanks, and I hope you've enjoyed this web site and its contents.
